Dieses Jahr findet das traditionelle Boat Race der Universitäten Oxford und Cambridge mit einem Österreicher an Bord statt. Alexander Leichter vom Linzer Ruderverein Wiking schaffte es nach hartem Training ins Blue Boat ( das ist das schnellste Boot) der Cambridge Crew. Eine besondere Ehre für ihn ist, dass er als Bootscaptain mitrudern wird. Wir halten unserem sympathischen Ruderkameraden aus Linz jedenfalls die Daumen, vielleicht reicht es auch zum Sieg. Favorit für das publikumswirksamste Rennen der Welt ist allerdings die Mannschaft von Oxford, die im Vorjahr überlegen mit 11 Längen Vorsprung ins Ziel kam. Also Alex - machs gut ! What is The Boat Race?

The Boat Race is an annual contest between two rowing crews from Oxford and Cambridge universities.

The Race takes place close to Easter each year on the River Thames in West London between Putney and Mortlake.

The first race took place in 1829 in Henley on Thames following a challenge between old school friends. Since the second race in 1836 the contest has taken place in London.

Sporting history will be made on Saturday April 11th 2015 when The BNY Mellon Boat Race is joined on the Tideway for the first time by The Newton Women’s Boat Race. 

Events at the river bank kick off at 12pm at Bishop's Park and Furnivall Gardens, and the Race will be broadcast live on the BBC.

The programme for Race day contains something for everyone - fun for all at the "Boat Race in the Parks" events, the traditional Oxbridge Watermen's Challenge, and of course all the action from The Newton Women's Boat Race and The BNY Mellon Boat Race itself.
